Website Design Project for Barker & Barker Solicitors
My engagement with Barker & Barker Solicitors, led by David, presented a clear and focused design challenge: to design a website that perfectly mirrored their established reputation for professionalism and clarity within Canberra’s legal landscape. As a well-respected family legal practice, David’s primary directive was unequivocal: the website needed to be "simple, clutter-free," and above all, provide "easy access to their range of practice areas." Their long-standing community presence meant aggressive SEO wasn't a priority; the website was envisioned as a refined, informative extension of their physical office – a digital front door designed for seamless user experience rather than constant marketing outreach.
This web design project materialised as a concise, yet comprehensive, four-page website, meticulously designed around their specific needs. The homepage immediately articulated Barker & Barker's unwavering "commitment to service delivery" through crisp, client-centric messaging that highlighted their empathetic approach and legal expertise. Crucially, it also provided a digestible "summary of their practice areas," allowing visitors to quickly grasp the breadth of services offered – from family law and property settlements to wills and estates – without being overwhelmed. Clear navigation gently directed users to delve deeper into specific areas, ensuring that the coveted "easy access" was paramount from the very first click.
To foster trust and build rapport, a comprehensive bio page was integrated, introducing the experienced legal team behind Barker & Barker. This section served to humanise the practice, showcasing individual expertise and professional backgrounds – particularly vital for a family law firm where personal connection often plays a significant role. The contact page was designed for ultimate utility, featuring all essential communication channels. A standout feature was the inclusion of an interactive map, clearly indicating available parking spaces in the vicinity of their Canberra offices. This thoughtful addition directly addressed a common client pain point, demonstrating Barker & Barker's attention to detail and their understanding of practical considerations for visitors.
Although David's initial brief indicated he was "not particularly interested in SEO work," I recognise that foundational optimisation is critical for any modern website's long-term health and incidental visibility. Therefore, I proactively implemented a layer of subtle, on-page SEO. This included strategic keyword integration within content, without compromising readability, along with meticulous meta tag optimisation and crucial schema markup. These technical enhancements, while not aimed at aggressive ranking, seamlessly provided search engines with a clear understanding of the site's content and purpose. This foresight ensures Barker & Barker's digital presence is robust and future-proofed, ready to organically capture relevant local searches should their priorities evolve, all while maintaining the elegant simplicity David initially requested.
